You may have already heard that the Amsterdam Law School has had an Impact Committee since 2022. But what do we actually mean by the term 'impact'? And in what way can our faculty contribute to it?

Unlike scientific impact, where your research is adopted by colleagues from academia, the Impact Committee was created to think about how research can be used to make social impact within our society.

Visualising impact

To answer the above questions, the committee therefore examined what is needed to support researchers in this regard. To this end, the main findings, complemented by best practices and challenges you may face as a researcher, have been documented. For example, it recommends to start communicating your research to a broader audience, but the strategy and timing of going of your research outputs also plays an important role.

Faculty Impact Committee

Based on the Impact Research Report, a number of recommendations were made to the faculty board. These recommendations mainly focus on the beautiful impactful work that many researchers at our faculty are already doing, to give this more attention, and to further support and promote it. There will also be further discussion on 'recognising & valuing' impact and valorisation activities of researchers in 2023.

Our Faculty Impact Committee consists of the following colleagues since 1 January 2022 for two years: Laura Burgers, Jill Coster van Voorhout, Nathalie Dijkman, Olga Gritsai, Rumyana Grozdanova, André Nollkaemper, Katrina Perehudoff, Joao Quintais, Marcella Reneman (formerly Linde Bryk) and Sofia Stolk. The committee meets four times a year. Would you like to attend a committee meeting once? You can, everyone is welcome. Just send a message to Nathalie Dijkman (n.e.j.dijkman@uva.nl).

Do you have feedback yourself on how policies on impact and valorisation should be seen or supported at the Amsterdam Law School? You can still fill out our survey, on which the research report is based, anonymously via this link
