Oh, what a year it has been. Hybrid, physical or online events alternated due to the changing corona restrictions. But now we are prepared - we can reflect on a year full of growth. We look forward to creating more innovation, impact and justice for society in this new year. In any form. Although we hope to see you in person again soon. Wondering what our plans are for 2022? We have selected 10 highlights for you below.
Group of students in front of the Amsterdam Law Hub building
  • Our Gouden Zandloper-awarded Master's elective course Justice Entrepreneurship will start again with 20 motivated students in spring. We are curious which innovations they will present during our Legal Start-up event in June. The concept that won the title Justice Entrepreneurs of 2021 was Legal Crowd: a crowd funding platform for legal cases.
  • After the success of our first Open House event for new students, we will organise a second edition in October. Everyone is welcome to get to know our renters, programmes in the Law Hub and, of course, participate in our famous justice bingo.
  • In cooperation with the Amsterdam Law Clinics, two courses will be developed this year to support (the work of) students who are working at Legal Advice Centers: the bachelor course Clinic Rechtshulpverlening and the master course Clinic Beleid & Recht. Do you work at a Legal Advice Center and are you interested? Please keep an eye on our website.
  • This year we are also continuing our Start-up Fund. Employees as well as students and young alumni (maximum 2 years after graduating) have the opportunity to submit a plan for an investment of € 2,500 for a legal innovative idea and to participate in our Market Impact incubator programme.
  • Every month we organise, in cooperation with Pro Bono Connect, Start-up- and NGO Legal Clinics. During these clinics, start-ups and NGOs can receive free legal advice on a specific topic under the guidance of 16 of the Netherlands' largest law firms. Check events for the upcoming clinics. Don't forget to join to our next Incuboater in September for free legal advice.
Brainstorming in a notebook
  • Together with our grantadvisor colleagues, we are busy developing a Talent Factory programme to guide researchers of the Faculty of Law in their academic career and to create more impact with their research. Stay tuned!
  • We will also continue to support colleagues who are applying for NWO funding in the field of knowledge utilisation or research dissemination. We will also organise a number of workshops to help researchers pitch their research, translate it for the layman, summarise it succinctly, describe it catchily or even convert it into a tool, product or news publication – through blogs, social media, videos or podcasts.
  • After our success with our first Women's Legal Advice Centre in Amsterdam, we will continue to expand legal aid for women this year. Two new openings of Women's Legal Aid Centres at other locations in Amsterdam are planned.
  • In March, we are organising a Symposium about Access to Law & Technology, where our research report on Legal Advice Centers will be presented and where we will also launch the Social-legal map of Amsterdam. Keep an eye on our website and socials for more information.
  • Last but not least, we are going to develop a tool that can support Legal Advice Centers (and eventually other Legal Advice providers) in their work through the use of AI. This still sounds vague, because we cannot reveal more (yet). Fortunately, technological innovation is high on our agenda and in 2022 we will definitely contribute to the (technical) support of Legal Advice Centers in our network.
