Summary

After a short introduction by the authors, Gareth Davies (VU Amsterdam) and Floris De Witte (London School of Economics) will discuss the cross-cutting issues connecting the two books, such as the need for cross-policy coordination on health and environmental protection and the critique of the current EU approaches. Following this discussion, Tamara Hervey (University of Sheffield) will comment on ‘EU Health Law & Policy’ and Alessandra Arcuri (Erasmus University Rotterdam) will comment on ‘Risk Regulation in the Internal Market’.

The roundtable will be chaired by Nik de Boer.

The Contributors

Alessandra Arcuri is a legal scholar conducting research in the area of international economic law and on the emergence of global technocracy. She is a Full Professor of Inclusive Global Law and Governance at the Erasmus School of Law, Erasmus University Rotterdam. She is also a founding member of the Erasmus Institute for Public Knowledge and a Member of the Young Erasmus.

Gareth Davies was a barrister in London before being a University Lecturer at the University of Groningen (2000-2007) and then moving to Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2007 to the present). In 2006 he was an Emile Noel Fellow at New York University Law School, and in 2014 a Fernand Braudel Senior Fellow at the EUI. Gareth Davies also teaches at Amsterdam University College. He is the co-author, with Damian Chalmers and Giorgio Monti of EU Law (3rd edn, Cambridge University Press, 2014). He is one of the leaders of the European Constitutionalism theme of ACCESS Europe, an Amsterdam inter-university European studies research platform (accesseurope.org).

Floris De Witte is Associate Professor at the LSE. His research deals with the interaction between EU law and political theory, with particular emphasis on free movement, the Euro-crisis and the role of the individual in the EU. Floris is an affiliated member of the LSE European Institute.

Tamara Hervey is Jean Monnet Professor of European Union Law at the University of Sheffield. Prior to joining Sheffield in 2007 she held academic posts at Durham, Manchester and Nottingham Law Schools. She enjoys integrating research with teaching and learning. One of the aspects of being a professor she particularly likes is working with students on research projects (both hers and theirs).
