This initiative is the result of a collaboration between the Amsterdam Law Hub, Bureau Clara Wichmann and the City of Amsterdam. Most recent figures from the CBS show that women lag behind men in terms of economic independence. They are still often financially dependent and on average earn lower wages than men. Only 53% of women earn at least the minimum wage, while this is the case for 76% of men. In addition, women more often get into trouble because of a divorce and they more often have to deal with sexual violence or street harassment.

After attending an intensive training course last week, our enthusiastic legal advisors - students from the University of Amsterdam, among others - are ready to offer women tailored legal advice. This means that we understand the legal problems women face and their experience with the legal system within a broader analysis of systemic gender inequality.

Professional - free of charge! - legal advice
From Thursday 9 September onwards, women are welcome at the drop-in hours of the Women's Legal Advice Centre in the Kolenkitbuurt area and an appointment can be made online. Here women can obtain free professional legal advice about various areas of law.
